Is an electric car right for you?

Electric cars work best for drivers with predictable

daily routes, access to home charging, and who do not

regularly drive very long distances. For most UK drivers

doing under 150 miles per day, range anxiety is rarely

a real-world issue.

Key things to check when buying a used EV

Battery health is the most important factor.

Ask the seller for a battery health report or check

the dashboard display showing current battery capacity.

A healthy battery should show above 80 percent of

original capacity.

Check the onboard charger speed. Earlier EVs had slower

onboard chargers that limit AC charging speeds even

when connected to a faster charger.

Check the charging port type. Most UK EVs use Type 2

for AC and CCS for DC rapid charging.

Most popular used EVs in the UK

Nissan Leaf

The most common used EV in the UK. Affordable, reliable,

and widely understood by mechanics. Early models have

smaller batteries - look for the 40kWh or 62kWh version.

Renault Zoe

Excellent range for the price. The battery lease model

on older versions has been phased out. Check whether

the battery is owned outright.

Tesla Model 3

Premium option with excellent range and performance.

Supercharger network is a significant advantage for

long distance driving.

Volkswagen ID.3

Modern, practical, and well-built. The software has

improved significantly over early versions.

Hyundai IONIQ 5

Award-winning design with ultra-fast 800V charging.

Strong range and a very complete package.
